In His Name

by Greg Laurie on Nov 6, 2019
Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.
—Malachi 3:16
Listen

Do you notice when people use your name? I can be out somewhere with my son, Jonathan, and he’ll say “Dad . . . Dad!” but I won’t respond. Then he’ll say, “Greg Laurie!” and I’ll immediately turn around. If you say my name, you’ll get a response.

In the same way, when you say the name of Jesus, He will respond. He pays attention when we speak His name.

People use the name of Jesus all the time, and sadly, sometimes they use it in profanity. Why is that? Because even in their twisted way, nonbelievers are acknowledging there is power in the name of Jesus.

When we gather for worship, the Lord is listening. When we initiate a conversation about Jesus, the Lord is eavesdropping. He wants to know what we’re saying.

Malachi 3:16 tells us, “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name” (NKJV).

The phrase “listened and heard” means to prick the ears or to listen more carefully. Not only does God listen, but He notices as well. And He will reward us for every act of faithfulness.

Galatians 6:9 says, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (NLT).

God takes notice of everything you’ve done. Maybe you haven’t received the thanks you deserve or that pat on the back. But the Lord is watching. The Lord is keeping a record. And one day He will reward you for every sacrificial act, every gift you gave, and everything you did in the name of Jesus.
